If you see someone collapse suddenly and he or she is unresponsive and not breathing, immediately ask for an AED, call 119, and start pushing the victim's chest hard. This simplified compression-only CPR will save a lot of lives.
How to perform chest compressions
Chest compressions, in place of the stopped heart, pump blood throughout the body to the brain. Continuous chest compressions are the key to survival.
How to use an AED
AED stands for Automated External Defibrillator. When the heart has a rapid irregular twitching called ventricular fibrillation, the AED gives an electric shock to the heart so as to stop the twitching and restart a normal rhythm. This medical device can be used by non-medical personnel, and can be found at many locations, especially in public places. Since it analyzes the heart's rhythm automatically and determines if an electric shock is needed, lay people can use it without worry.
